ABOUT

Aage A. Mikalsen (b. 1990) utilizes notions of identity, medical science and critical conditions in his explorations of personal experiences and narratives. His conceptual approach manifests through a variety of methods and media, such as photography, installation, photography, text, performance, painting, and sound work. He is also one half of the artist duo Mikalsen & Marhaug and has had an active curatorial practice since 2019; as a co-founder and curator of the club and exhibition series KunstKLUBB; at the micro gallery 0.9, as well as with singular projects. 

Mikalsen has had solo, duo, and collaborative exhibitions at a variety of exhibition spaces and galleries. Some of these include Jamais vu (collaboration and residency with Sindre Foss Skancke), Surnadal Billag (2022), Om trygghet og omsorg (collaboration with Verona Størseth), Galleri KiT (2022), SLIK FORGÅR VERDENS STORHET, K-U-K Kjøpmannsgata Ung Kunst PopOpp (2021), FRAGMENTERT/SAMMEN, Surnadal Billag (2020), Å bygge et språk, Abels Hus/KLP (2020), $WIN€, KiTX (2019), and Fortæringspunkt, Rockheim Panorama (2018).

His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions and art fairs at Bøler Triennalen, Oslo (2023),

NW Gallery/Copenhagen Photo Festival (2022), Heimdal Kunstforening (2020 – 2021), Edvard Munch Haus, Warnemünde (2020), Trondhjems Kunstforening (2019 – 2020), Galleri Golsa, Oslo (2019), Gallery Steinsland Berliner, Stockholm (2019), House of Vans, London (2019), BLOKK, Bergen (2019), Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Thailand (2019), and Galleri KiT, Trondheim (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022).

Mikalsen holds a BFA and an MFA from Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), 2018 - 2023. His work is acquired by Trondheim Municipality’s collection.

Aage A. Mikalsen (f. 1990) arbeider med tematikk knyttet til identitet, medisin og kritiske tilstander, gjennom utforskning av personlige erfaringer og historier. Han jobber konseptuelt på tvers av medium og metoder; blant annet med fotografi, tekst, performance, maleri og lyd. Mikalsen er én halvdel av kunstnerduoen Mikalsen & Marhaug, og har siden 2019 hatt en aktiv kuratorpraksis; som medgrunnlegger og kurator for klubb- og utstillingsserien KunstKLUBB; i mikrogalleriet 0.9, og gjennom gruppeutstillinger ved Galleri KiT og K-U-K Kjøpmannsgata Ung Kunst.

Han har tidligere stilt ut ved en rekke visningsrom og gallerier. Mikalsen har en bachelorgrad og mastergrad i Fine Art fra Kunstakademiet i Trondheim, ved Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU), 2018 - 2023. Han er innkjøpt av Trondheim kommunes kunstsamling.
